How do you think the business has supported you over the time you have been here?
I've always been given the room and opportunity to learn new skills at EMS. I have always found it easy to speak with people. If I've had any issues, personal or professional I have always been able to talk to someone.
What do you like most about your role?
I love the banter and comradery with both the team and customers. I like to take care of people and make sure they're ok, to my detriment at times. I've had to learn a hard lesson that people aren't always the same way back to you!
In your view, what are the greatest strengths in the depot?
Here in Northampton we have an excellent range of knowledge and experience. We all fall in to multi roles to support and help each other to keep the wheels rolling. I'm a firm believer in not asking people to do things that I'm not prepared to do myself. We try to develop people from within where we can. Nothing is a secret, knowledge is power.
What motivates you in your role & the pursuit to move forward within EMS?
I have watched EMS evolve and develop since the BPW group takeover and have always believed EMS would become a success, despite the challenges that have arisen. I have always moved around within a company, learning different areas of the business, it's something I enjoy. Always keen to learn new skills, even at the ripe old age of nearly 50.
Was there anything that didn’t work out as you had hoped?
Something is happening right now to be honest. We are a couple of weeks away from a refit in our sales office, and we have had to rejig the design slightly. With help and support from John Pursey (Operations Director) we are making a new plan design which I actually think I like better!
What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
I would say my biggest achievement was landing the Branch Manager role. Having joined EMS in 2014 as a driver I have had the opportunity to work across the business in a few roles. Driver, warehouse, sales advisor, assistant Branch Manager to the Branch Manager. Who knows what's next? I think working your way up through a company, you can appreciate and understand people and what challenges they face in their role. I'm a firm believer in never asking people to do something I'm not prepared to do myself.
What can EMS achieve and what do you think we need to do to get there?
EMS will remain a leading player in the aftermarkets parts arena. The truck focus is adding another string to our bow and is giving us new targets to aim for. Some exciting things are happening and we all seem to be on the same page on what we need to do to get there. Keeping the staff happy and motivated is key.
What is your passion away from work?
I love to sing! I have hosted a karaoke show for the past 25+ years. I spend any other spare time making memories with my little girl, visiting lots of places, from amusement parks to castles and everything in between.
